The people make it special, especially in those times when you get to meet someone who’s genuinely cool af. Osay, rapping out of Atlanta, is an extremely talented newcomer, who’s been studying the game for years. Osay’s sound is reminiscent of old school legend Biggie and 90’s rap, but with a modern vibe. I dare you not to nod your head while listening.
It's official. After all the doubt and hate, Team Hoosier takes a commanding 3-1 lead in the Lyrically Rap Label Manager Fantasy League. It did come a little later than expected though. Yeah, we may have 'planned' to record scores like two weeks ago. But things happen. Christmas, craziness, and stuff. We were lazy over our Christmas break.
Did a little more work on some graphics tonight, and thought I would share with a quick post on the website. I'm a data guy in my real life, so playing with excel and numbers is kind of an hobby. Charts may not be for everybody, but I think it sets our First Week up nicely.
We're trying out something new here, something to stir up a little friendly and hopefully entertaining competition. Welcome to Lyrically Rap's "Label Manager Fantasy League". Its basically Fantasy Football, but instead of comparing football stats, we'll be drafting Lyrical Rap artist to our fantasy Rap Label. Marshall & I will go head to head to determine the best "Fantasy Rap Label".
I found 30 Lyrical rap artists who shared their yearly results on Instagram. These 30 rappers accounted for 2 Billion streams on Spotify over 2020. I've ranked them by Most Streams for the Year.
Joyner Lucas released his latest album, “Evolution” today (10/23/20). “Evolution” is a master crafted set of songs lined up to tell a story of Joyner Lucas’ life. The message is powerful, tackling everything from Racial Inequality, the power of self, life goals, growing, and the truth beyond the exterior.
https://youtu.be/7ETV44quyuo This song is dope. Some of the best of artists in the game. The other day, I responded to one of Ekoh's Facebook post saying Locksmith is really hitting the grind lately. I think we need to get a feature coming up.
Through the flu, technical issues, and on the fly late - spur of the moment craziness, we created something that was fun and hopefully our listeners could enjoy as well. Buggie was even gracious enough to allow us to release a small snippet of his upcoming collab with Jarren Benton! It's dope by the way.
JL released his latest album today (9/25/2020), “The Devil Hates Sundays” and as I write this, I’m listening through it. There’s a lot of music on this album, 20 songs spread out over an hour’s worth of quality hip hop. Usually when I write these articles, I try to choose three songs that are my favorite. It’s almost too hard to do that this time. Like I said, a lot of bangers.
Atmosphere, the rap duo from Rhymesayers, gave us a interesting video today via Youtube. "Blotter Acid Reflux Syndrome" is a complicated name to begin with, but a dope song with a strange video.
Buggie was approached by Russian rap group Эскимос Crew to spit some bars on their latest album release, "Igloo". The track titled "Crash Test" features Buggie rapping about language barriers. We spoke to him about the inspiration to his verse.
"Underrated" speaks for itself. Durand, Norad, & KXNG Crooked release a song that joins the chorus of other artists speaking for change.
Usually Friday is the day to drop new releases, but that wasn't the case today. I woke up and felt like it was Christmas, it was just release after release. And another one! But for real, its a good morning listening to these new songs. We got new releases from Ekoh and Rittz. Merkules and The Game. Joyner Lucas and Ashanti. Krizz Kaliko and Rittz. And some Emerging Artists I stumbled upon, the World Emcee group.
We went and did a little extra, we recorded a podcast. Generally, we're just writers, who don't speak all that well. We pushed past that, knowing that having extra media was the best way to reach more of an audience. We need that audience to promote the best lyrical rap music that's out there. These days, podcasts is where its at.
Follow My Lead features Jehry Robinson and King Iso in a Strange Music stable collab. Jehry released his latest album, 20/Twenty, last Friday. It's a fresh album, with multiple inspirations of music composing some hard lyrics. I believe Jehry Robinson could perform in any genre of music, we're just lucky he's chosen lyrical rap. Follow My Lead is one of our favorite tracks from the album, and one of our favorite picks for this week.
