KXNG Crooked and Joell Ortiz! H.A.R.D.

Yo, ive been listening to this album by Kxng Crooked and Joell Ortiz and it just gets better track to track! Honestly this may be my favorite album out right now. The production has old school west coast vibes mixed with that east coast sound, and both these guys are amazing lyricists. Lets take a deeper look at both of these artists on this one!

KXNG Crooked

Let’s peep his newest realease first.

Crooked hails from Long Beach, CA and has been in the game for quite a while now. He landed his first record deal all the way back in ’95 going by the name of Crooked I. During this time he collaborated with artists the likes Snoop Doggy Dogg, Tha Eastsidaz, and The Luniz. Talk about golden era west coast hip hop royalty right there. After his first deal with Virgin, he was signed to death row records in the early 00’s. He appeared on a number of compilations, such as Dysfunktional Family, and appeared on various releases, such as Ja Rule’s The Last Temptation, and 2Pac’s Nu-Mixx Klazzics. He also recorded two albums, Untouchable and Say Hi To The Bad Guy, both of which were unreleased due to various label issues and industry politics. He did manage to release a mixtape along with Death Row’s then in-house producer, Darren Vegas, called Westcoasanostra Vol. 1 in the Spring of 2003. He is probably most known, at least by the current hip hop genration, as a member of Slaughterhouse with Joell Ortiz, Royce Da 5’9 and Joe Budden. Talk about a super group! He released numerous projects with Slaughterhouse and the group was eventually signed to Shady Records in 2011. In 2018 he announced his departure from the group to focus on his solo career.

Joell Ortiz

Joell Ortiz comes to us out of the Cooper Park Houses in the East Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, New York. He was formerly signed to Aftermath Entertainment. He was featured in the Unsigned Hype column of the March 2004 issue of The Source Magazine and was also selected as Chairman’s Choice in XXL Magazine. He joined up with Slaughterhouse the same time Crooked did but remains a member to this day while also putting out many great solo projects.
